Trip to Blue Ridge

This spring break we decided to go to the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is always a great time, lots to do and change of scenery. Since spring break falls in March, it is too cold for us to go to the beach so we head north and get in some good outdoor time and enjoy nature up in the mountains.

Spring Break 2009

Fun World (again)

Apparently the most anticipated stop when we visit Georgia is Fun World at Fieldstone. The kids have a fun time. This time Dallin & Max went into the foam factory and climbed to the top and had lots of fun shooting foam balls everywhere. Leif climbed the rock wall again and got higher than he did the last time he tried it. He does pretty good for his size.

Amicola Falls

Great hike to the Amicola Falls. This hike is totally uphill and then comes to 175 steps and then another 425 steps after that to the top of the falls. Dallin made it about 1/2 mile until we hit the steps and then Shane put him in the backpack, Max made it up the 175 steps and then wanted to rest instead of going to the top, so we took a rest. Leif made it with Shane and Dallin on his back up the next 425 steps. Good job guys!

Consolidated Gold Mine

The Consolidated gold mine was a fun place to stop. We had a tour of the gold mine that was 7 stories below the ground. It was interesting to learn about gold and gold mining. After the tour we panned for gold and dug for gems. We found a little bit of gold and a good number of gems.

Appalachian trail hike

Hiking the Appalachain trail, when we arrived at the trail it was only 39 degrees. (Thank you Shane for letting me wear your jacket over mine) The kids did a great job Dallin made it just about a mile. He wanted to hold hands and I couldn't bend down and walk so I found a stick and he held on to it and walked the whole way and didn't complain or cry at all. What a trooper, he really has become quite the little hiker! He's not even 2 yet!
Notice the stick!!

Over the creek

Great job little buddy!

Leif climbing the hill as always!!!

Around the cabin

Front view of the cabin we rented in Epworth, Georgia. What a fun time we have visiting the Blue Ridge mountains of Georgia. Only 6 hours from our house and we are in the middle of the mountains, quite a change of scenery.

Around the cabin-hot tub

Hanson family favorite- hot tub after a long day of hiking!

Around the cabin-backyard

The cabin had a great backyard that backed up to a river. Shane demonstrated his firestarting abilities once again. The boys had fun wondering and exploring. The river water was very fast moving from the recent rain and was quite brown, don't know if it is always that way or from the rain.
